Current Projects

Schools this Autumn term in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire have been enjoying a variety of workshops with Second Nature.

Many schools are interested in developing the grounds to create wildlife areas and as a resource for outdoor learning, particularly with the new curriculum for the foundation stage coming in September 2008, with a much greater hands-on approach.

Nicky has been carrying out environmental audits starting at the planning stage to ‘see what is already there’ and advising schools on planting native wildflowers and trees, how and what to feed the birds, and creating wildlife habitats etc.

Nicky with yr4 Stepaside CP School with a Nest box to attract blue tits, great tits and sparrows.

Nicky advises the school on where best to position their box – 2-4 metres up a tree or wall facing between north and east to avoid strong sunlight and the wettest winds.

Pontyates CP School also surveyed their grounds and drew inspiration on a day out to Gelli Aur to learn about Autumn and discover the wonder of trees.
